Q. Why should I make a donation at on November 27th?

We encourage you to support causes by giving year-round, but think of Give Big Pittsburgh as our region's very own charitable holiday. It's a day to celebrate the work of local nonprofits by giving something extra—or to “give big.” By doing so, our collective giving makes the Pittsburgh area stronger. Plus, gifts made through Give Big Pittsburgh are amplified by matching funds (only applicable for certain nonprofits) and also have the power to qualify your favorite nonprofit for one of our numerous prizes.

Q. What is Give Big Pittsburgh?

Give Big Pittsburgh is an online giving day hosted by the Pittsburgh Magazine in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Foundation created to support the nonprofits doing great work in our community. Leveraging the national awareness of #GivingTuesday, hundreds of nonprofits throughout Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas will work together to raise awareness, collect donations, and build a stronger sense of philanthropy throughout their local communities.

Q. When is Give Big Pittsburgh?

Give Big Pittsburgh is on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from midnight to 11:59 PM.

Q. Who can donate?

Anyone may donate! Donations through the Give Big Pittsburgh online portal to charitable nonprofit organizations are tax-deductible and cannot be refunded. Contributions may be made via credit and debit card only.

Q. What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a national day of giving that occurs on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday each year.
Give Big Pittsburgh builds on the focus of #GivingTuesday by engaging many of the major nonprofit networks and leaders in Pittsburgh to encourage more nonprofits and donors to participate. Experience with such days of giving shows that when participation increases, donors have more choices and overall giving to nonprofits increases.

Q. Which organizations can participate?

Organizations that are verified 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits that are headquartered or provide services in Pennsylvania are eligible to participate in Give Big Pittsburgh. Additionally, organizations must be registered as charitable organizations with the Pennsylvania Department of State. Q. When can my organization start receiving donations for Give Big Pittsburgh?

Donations will open on Tuesday, November 27th at 12AM and remain open through December 31, 2018 for year end giving.

Q. How much of a donation goes to the nonprofit?

GiveGab retains a 2% campaign management fee from all donations on the giving day, capped at $20 per donation. Credit Card processing fees are an additional 2.2% + $0.30 for all major credit cards. 100% of all donations are tax-deductible for the donor. This year we have the added ability to allow donors to cover the fees before finalizing their transaction. Data shows that a majority of donors (65% per GiveGab’s data) elect to do this, but this is ultimately up to the donor. All online donations will be officially receipted for tax purposes automatically through GiveGab under the name of the nonprofit receiving the funds.

Q. Is my gift safe and secure

Yes. uses Stripe, which is a PCI-Level 1 compliant online credit card processor. You can be sure that your personal information is protected when you donate. For more information, please read more about Stripe's security and privacy policy.

Q. Can I give to more than one organization?

You may make multiple donations to nonprofits. However, only registered nonprofits will be eligible to receive gifts through

Q. Who will receive my contact information?

The organization(s) you choose to support will have access to your name and email address. This information is used solely to send thank you messages, provide the option to receive future notifications, and to notify you of future activities.

You have the option to make your donation anonymous. Anonymous donations will be displayed as "Anonymous." on the organization's page. Organizations will still have access to your name and email address.

Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.
